Baseball Semi-Finals Tonight and a Tribute to Town Meeting Members

Both Danvers High and St. John's Prep are playing in the semi-finals tonight and the town will hold a special ceremony to recognize Danvers' longest serving Town Meeting members.

Welcome to “5 Things,” your daily source for community events, happenings in town and other little tidbits of information. Here are five things you need to know on Thursday, June 6.

  1. The Falcons knocked off Reading, 7-6, in a thriller of a baseball contest Tuesday night and head to the semi-finals for Division II North tonight against Belmont. The game will be played at Alumni Field in Lowell (7 p.m.).
  2. Meanwhile, St. John's Prep will battle it out with the Peabody Tanners for one side of the Division I North bracket in a semi-final game at Fraser Field in Lynn tonight (7 p.m.). The Eagles trounced Chelmsford Monday, 9-0, while Peabody knocked off Central Catholic, 9-5 Tuesday night.
  3. Eagles' pitcher and shortstop Brandon Bingel, who just graduated, is also a possible pick this week in the Major League Baseball draft. You can read more on that story here.
  4. A Night of Legacy and Hope: The Hayley's Hope Foundation is holding a fundraiser today at Texas Roadhouse from 4-9:30 p.m. The restaurant will donate 10 percent of your total food bill to the foundation, but you need to provide your server with a copy of the fundraiser flyer. Email hayleyslegacy@hotmail.com to get a copy. You can also donate to the cause here: www.gofundme.com/hayleyshopefoundation. HHF's mission is to create awareness of issues relating to teenage suicide and warning triggers and signs.
  5. Danvers is recognizing its longest serving Town Meeting members today in a special ceremony at Town Hall. Both those living and late members who spent more than 25 years as elected representatives will be recognized. The celebration will take place from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in the Toomey Room.
