Discover Treasures: It's A Secret

"It's A Secret!" 

It was the conversation sparker that owner of "It's A Secret," Kimm Tremblay, wanted her store to produce. 

Part of why Tremblay's shop full of homemade treasures is literally a secret, is its location. Because of town bylaws, her in-home-business located at 100 Conant St., cannot have a sign. However, she is allowed a display on her car, so when drivers pass by on Saturdays and Sundays from 10-4 they can easily spot her car and a signature balloon on her front lawn. 

Tremblay credits her grandfather for peaking her curiousity about how things worked, when he would take her brother to learn about his workshop and told her that it "wasn't for girls."

"I'd wait until they were busy, and I would sneak down and watch," she said. "The best way to learn something is to be told you can't do it…yes I can!" 

Tremblay's philosophy for her business can easily be summarized: "I like to see how things work, I like to figure things out, and I hate to see anything wood thrown away." 

At It's A Secret she has an array of second-hand items that she's revamped, remodeled, and made ultimately, much better than how they originally looked. 

"A lot of people have been bringing me pieces to rehab for them. The problem is I find things all the time and now I'm running out of space." 

So, Tremblay is in the beginning stages of looking for a location for her business to thrive. But don't worry- she is adamant about staying in Danvers. 

"I always wanted my own shop. I figured I might as well give it a try. Either way I'll learn something, and sometimes thats the only way you do."

When you walk into It's A Secret, you're greeted by a plate of home-made cookies, and Tremblay, who will answer any questions, and will otherwise let customers poke around while she stays busy in her workshop. 

She's also donated various items to local charities, including a monetary donation to Strays in Need, and 100 hand-made knit scarves to Rosie's Place. 

"If you enjoy doing it, do it," she said. "I have a great time with it."
