High Winds Expected Today

The National Weather Service is warning that today's winds could reach 50 mph.

A wind advisory went into effect at 8 a.m. this morning, due to National Weather Service predictions of high wind gusts for today and into Sunday.

The NWS is expecting winds to reach 25 to 35 miles per hour, with gusts as high as 50 miles per hour.

According to the NWS, strong winds will arrive shortly after sunrise and continue into Saturday night.

The wind advisory is in effect for all of Massachusetts, as well as Connecticut, Rhode Island and parts of New Hampshire between 8 a.m. Saturday until 2 a.m. Sunday.

Wind advisories are issued by the NWS when sustained winds are expected to be between 31 and 39 miles per hour or gusts will be between 46 and 57 miles per hour.

Winds this strong can cause isolated power outages, downed tree limbs and branches and difficult driving.
