Planning For Danvers Dog Park Underway

After , and an adoption from the Friends of Danvers Recreation, the Danvers Dog Park Committee is currently in the designing, fundraising, and budgeting process. 

The dog park, which has been approved forin the upper parking area adjacent to Dean's Lane, will require fencing, ground cover, trash receptacles and possible water fountains for both dogs and humans. 

To complete the project, however, the committee is in need of more members. "In order for us to really, totally accomplish the goal we need more volunteers," said Gail Tyrell, chair person for the Dog Park Committee. "Dogs are an intricate part of everyone's lives these days. There are over 2000 dog owners in town, so by the numbers there is a need."

Currently there are four Executive Committee members and about 12 on the general committee.

The proposed design for the dog park will feature a fenced in area with partially wooded, partially cleared space, as well as offering separate sections for smaller dogs and larger dogs. "We need to work on the type and the size of the fencing," said Tyrell. "We're looking to have hopefully some water bubblers for humans and dogs, [and] a doggie bag dispenser."

Talk of a possible 5k road race and other fundraisers are being discussed at the meetings, but none have been officially dated. 

Bi-weekly meetings are held on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month through September at the community room at 6 p.m.
