"Night of Laughter" Commemorates Former Danvers Student

The "A Night of Laughter" in Memory of Steven Bekel is being hosted at the Danversport Yacht Club on Thursday September 29.

Steven Bekel would have been a senior at this year. Described as a "great kid, very funny, and so full of energy," Steven passed away in a car accident with his father two years ago, just short of his fifteenth birthday.

Steven grew up in Danvers, first attending and later . "Chris always looked up to Steven, saying he was "a true athlete," said Nancy Bray, of her son Chris' friendship with Steven. "They played basketball and baseball together and Chris would always ask him for basketball tips, as basketball was Steven's true love."

Since Bekel's passing in 2009, the Bekel Memorial Basketball Tournament has been held at the , as well as a "Pasta and Movie Nite" at the Prep this year on June 3.

Tomorrow, September 29, the "," is being hosted in memory of Steven at the , with proceeds benefiting the 's senior class activities, where many of Steven's friends attend.

"The out pour of support and love for the Bekel family is amazing," said Bray. "Steven's mother, Nancy, is a wonderful person, and also a friend of mine, who loves all of our sons as her own."

 The Night of Laughter will be a "fantastic night with some great comedians, music, hors d'oeuvres, and of course... laughter!" said Bray.

The comedy show will feature Frank Santorelli, Dave Rattigan, Sal Votano, Jack Walsh, and Danny Gill with Keyboard and vocals performed by Dickie Guerrette.
