Lowell Man Charged With Citizens Bank Robbery

A 30-year-old Lowell man faces charges of armed robbery and being common or notorious thief.

A Lowell man is charged with the armed robbery at the Citizens Bank branch inside Stop & Shop last month.

Police arrested Steven Cerqueira, 30, of Lowell, on a warrant after he was positively identified by a family member, reports the Salem News.

The robbery occurred Nov. 27 when a man (allegedly Cerqueira) approached a bank teller, threatened the teller he had a gun and made off with an undisclosed amount of cash.

After the robber left the store, a dye pack exploded and covered some of the money, which was found outside Staples. The robber managed to get away.

Cerqueira was arraigned in Salem District Court last week on a charge of armed robbery and being a common or notorious thief, reports the Salem News. He pleaded not guilty to both charges and was held on $10,000 bail.

A probable cause hearing is scheduled for Jan. 8.
