Obituary: Frederick Stead, Jr., Danvers Resident and World War II Veteran

Obituary from Mackey Funeral Home:

Frederick Stead, Jr., 87, of Danvers, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Sunday, July 20, 2014.

He was the husband of the late Eva (Wing) Stead for 50 years. Born in Lynn, he graduated from the Lynn school system. He was a self- employed carpenter working beside his father, brother and uncles building many homes throughout Lynn and Saugus. He later was employed for 30 years as the structural Foreman for buildings and grounds at Harvard University, Cambridge.  

As a master finished carpenter/cabinet maker, he enjoyed all types of carpentry. He also enjoyed carving, drawing, painting, train collecting/set ups, and fishing.

A veteran of W.W. II, Fred served his country with the U.S. Army Air Corps.

He leaves his two daughters; Bonnie (Stead) Sonia and her companion Thomas Shields of Merrimack, NH, and Victoria Lowry and her husband Ron of Danvers. Also leaving a granddaughter, Devon Lowry of Danvers, a beloved brother Charles Douglas Stead of Lynn, and a special nephew/brother Ronald Douglas Penley also of Lynn. He also had many cousins, nieces, nephews of several generations who were dear to him.  

He was the son of the late Frederick Sr. and Charlotte (Dunn) Stead and brother of the late Neville Stead and Maria Jane Penley.

The family would like to thank his many “coffee buddies” for their friendship, conversation, laughter and especially for their assistance during his recent illness. 

A Funeral Service was held on Friday at All Saints Episcopal Church, 44 Cherry St., Danvers. Burial was in Walnut Grove Cemetery.
