Obituary: Hope H. "Sue" (Getchel) Auen, Former Danvers Resident

Mrs. Hope H. "Sue" (Getchel) Auen, 81, of South Hamilton, beloved wife of the late Robert E. Auen, died unexpectedly, March 3, 2014 at her home. 

Born in Danvers, she was the daughter of the late Estelle Getchell. She was raised and educated in Danvers and was a graduate of the former Holten High School in Danvers. Mrs. Auen continued her education becoming a graduate of the Lawrence General Hospital School of Nursing in 1953.

A long-time dedicated care giver and nurse; Sue had been employed with the Hogan Regional Center as the Head Nurse at the time of her retirement. She had previously been associated with the former Cable Hospital of Ipswich and the Former Hunt Hospital of Danvers.

A long-time dedicated member of the First Church of Wenham, Congregational and former deacon, Sue was active with the Order of Eastern Star and was a past Matron and was Mother Advisor, Order of DeMolay, Fidelity Chapter. She enjoyed Vermont and Maine and especially enjoyed her time vacationing with her family. An artist and creative person, Sue enjoyed knitting and painting. She was a resident of Hamilton for over 60 years. Her most precious moments were spent with her grandchildren.

Sue is survived by her daughter, Gail Susan David and her husband Mark of Hagerstown, Maryland, her sons, Robert S. Auen and his wife Amanda of South Hamilton, Kenneth Auen of Antrim, N.H. and Kevin Auen and his wife Jayne Trainor of Antrium, N.H., her grandchildren, Bobby Auen and his wife Ashley, Chris Auen, Stephen Auen and his wife Samantha and Jack Auen and Kristy Auen, Ryan and Jason David, Michelle Mears and her husband Nate and Shanna Regan. Her loving sister Doris Demers of Danvers and several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Emerson Getchell.

ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral service will be held in the Peterson-O'Donnell Funeral Home, 167 Maple St., (Route 62) Danvers, Saturday, March 8, at 1 p.m. Relatives and friends invited. Burial in Hamilton Cemetery, Hamilton.
