Obituary from the Mackey Funeral Home:

Pauline Goodno Rogers, 89, resident of Brooksby Village, Peabody, sadly passed away from a brief illness on June 23, 2014, surrounded by her loving family.

She was the beloved wife of the late, Ralph H Goodno II, a local, well known conservationist, who passed in 1980 after a long battle with cancer, age 58.

Pauline was also the wife of the late Charles Rogers of Danvers. She was the daughter of the late Frances & John Hayford of Chocorua, NH, born March 7, 1925 in Laconia, NH.

Pauline attended The Notre Dame Academy in Tygnsboro, went on to study Education at Emmanuel College graduating with a BA in 1947. After raising five children, Pauline furthered her studies at Salem State College in 1970 and Boston University with a degree in Special Education.

She was a member of a special group of educators teaching autistic children to find their place in the world & become independent individuals. She was well respected by her peers & loved by her students. Pauline, known as “Polly”, by her friends & family, retired from teaching after the passing of her husband, Ralph and made her way to Ireland, land of her ancestors.

Proud of her Irish heritage, she traveled extensively throughout the country with family, friends & her husband, Charlie.

Polly instilled the importance of family and tradition to her own family.  She and Charlie lived in Danvers for many years, but also enjoyed their winters in Florida. They finally settled at Brooksby Village for their final years.

Pauline is survived by her daughters, Marcia Sarazen of Tampa, FL, Pat Ford of Amesbury, Jodi Hooper of Lawrence, and a son, Wes Goodno of Pawtucket, RI.

Polly recently suffered the loss of her eldest son, Ralph (Chip) Goodno III also a conservationist, following a long and courageous battle with leukemia.

Pauline also leaves behind nine grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. She will be greatly missed by her family & friends. We would like to express our gratitude to the residents & staff at Brooksby Village who befriended & cared for our dear mother.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Lancaster County Conservancy, P.O. Box 716, Lancaster, PA. 17608. Funeral services will be held at the Mackey Funeral Home on Friday with visitation at 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. and funeral Mass at 11 a.m. in St Mary’s Church.
