8 Veteran Danvers Police Officers and Firefighters Get Promotions

Six police officers and two firefighters were tapped for promotions in their respective departments in town.

In addition to two veteran Danvers firefighters who are climbing up the ladder, six officers are also being promoted on the town's police force.

According to a recent memo from Town Manager Wayne Marquis to the Board of Selectmen, a promotional ceremony will be held at some point in November. The promotions were effective as of Sept. 15.

Marquis said sergeants Robert Bettencourt, William Carleton and James Lovell are now the police department's new lieutenants while officers Peter Shabowich, Olivia Silva and Philip Tansey were promoted to Sergeant's rank.

Bettencourt, who transferred over to Danvers from the Peabody police, has been on the department since 1994, while Carleton was appointed in 1984 and Lovell in 1998. Shabowich first joined the Danvers police in 1990, Silva in 2000 and Tansey in 2006.

The Fire Department promotions are for Kenneth Reardon, a Reading resident and the department's newest captain (he was first appointed in 1998), and Brian Barry, who was promoted to lieutenant. Barry lives in Beverly and has been on the department since 1993.

"Kevin, Neil and I, as well as all the members of the management team, look forward with anticipation to working with these dedicated and talented public servants over the coming months and years," Marquis said.
