Brightview Nurse Arraigned for Stealing Painkillers From Residents

The 29-year-old Marblehead resident was accused of stealing prescription medicine from residents at Brightview Assisted Living.

A 29-year-old former nurse at Brightview Assisted Living was arraigned at Salem District Court on Friday, Jan. 20, after facing charges of stealing prescription pills from residents of the facility, the Boston Globe reported.

Amy E. Martin, of 24 Barnard St. in Marblehead, received a summons to court in October, after she confessed to police that she had been replacing her elderly patients' prescription pain medicine with acetaminophen (Tylenol) according to the Globe article.

A resident's niece complained to the assisted living in September that her aunt's medicine was different than what she had been picking up for her at the pharmacy, the police report said.

At that point, Brightview, alongside the , began an investigation with hidden cameras, that revealed Martin taking medication from residents.

Martin, who was arraigned on six counts of larceny of prescription drugs and a charge of possessing class B controlled substances, will likely undergo Nursing Substance Abuse Rehabilitation Program, or SARP a state drug treatment program designed for nurses, according to her lawyer, Mark Berry in the Globe article.

Martin will return to court on March 21 after she is evaluated by the court’s physician, Dr. Randall Dwyer, the Globe reported.
