Danvers Police, Fire and Beverly Cops Bike 65 Miles for Sean Collier

The last leg of the Tour de Force, from Providence to Boston, was dubbed Sean's Ride in memory of slain MIT officer Sean Collier.

Seven Danvers police officers, two Danvers firefighters and four Beverly police officers suited up in their cycling gear to pedal 65 miles together Wednesday in memory of slain MIT police officer Sean Collier.

Collier was killed by the Tsarnaev brothers in the wake of the Boston Marathon bombing on Patriot's Day.

Sean's Ride, which was the last leg of the much longer annual Tour de Force from Ground Zero in New York City to the marathon finish line in Copley Square in Boston, saw police and firefighters from as far away as Miami, Fla. riding on the anniversary of 9/11.

Danvers police posted a number of updates throughout the day as the combined Danvers and Beverly team pedaled on from Providence, R.I. to Boston despite temperatures in excess of 90 degrees.

Danvers police reported the last leg of the tour raised $35,000. The money will go toward a memorial fund in Collier's name to help send one area officer to the police academy each year. The Tour de Force benefits families of New York police and firefighters.

Riding for the Danvers Police Department were officers Kevin Wood, Christopher Gaffney, Steve MacDonald, Justin Ellenton, Michael Molk, Detective Robert Sullivan and Sgt. Jamie Lovell. They were joined by Danvers Fire Lt. Mike Graves, and firefighter Paul Butler. Beverly officers Ted Lane, Eric Abramson, Jason Lantych and Detective Darlene Prinz completed the team.

Collier, a Salem State grad, had further ties to the North Shore and Danvers from his days working as a security officer at the Liberty Tree Mall.
