Danvers Schools Closed Wednesday as Police Investigate Case of Missing Teen

A 14-year-old Danvers male was first reported missing Tuesday night and police search parties spent hours late that night combing the area around the high school.

The Danvers Public Schools are closed on Wednesday as authorities investigate the case of a missing 14-year-old boy. WCVB reports the District Attorney's office is now involved in the case.

Danvers police were searching for Philip Chism late Tuesday night in the area of the high school. Search parties, assisted by the department's K-9, combed the fields and woods behind the school for hours.

The North Eastern Municipal Law Enforcement Council (NEMLEC) says it also deployed teams to assist and they have been in Danvers since 1 a.m. and a state police helicopter was also at the scene.

According to scanner reports, the search was abruptly called off around 3 a.m. and unconfirmed reports say Chism was found walking along Route 1 in Topsfield.

Police haven't released any confirmation of that yet, however, and haven't shed any light on the situation beyond an initial public notice Tuesday night that Chism was reported missing.

According to police, he was last seen around 6:30 p.m. at Hollywood Hits Cinema off Endicott Street. Chism had recently moved to Danvers from Tennessee.
