Danvers Woman, Peabody Man Arrested in Stolen U-Haul Truck

A Woburn officer who remembered an earlier report of a stolen U-Truck in Salem recovered the vehicle at the Woburn Mall and made two arrests on Tuesday.

At 7:14 p.m. Tuesday, Woburn Police arrested Bethany Chase Danforth, 25, 1 Norwich Road, Danvers, and charged her with receiving a stolen motor vehicle and receiving stolen property more than $250, and Samuel Tyler Eppinger, 24, 5 Winnegance Ave., Peabody, and charged him with receiving a stolen motor vehicle, possessing a Class A substance and receiving stolen property more than $250.

An officer spotted a U-Haul with Arizona plates near the Woburn Mall on Tuesday. Remembering there was a U-Haul truck stolen from Salem, the officer followed the truck, which had two men and a woman inside.

The truck pulled into the mall and pulled over. The officer ran the plates and found it was in fact the truck that was stolen.

He approached the truck and reportedly saw Eppinger shooting heroin in the back of the truck. The officer saw needles, a spoon, a lighter, a bottle of water and a “glassine baggie corner with a dark colored ball inside it.”

The officer recognized the ball as a cotton ball that had been used in shooting heroin. Police confiscated the items and took the man into custody.

Police also spoke to Danforth, who was in the front of the truck. Danforth said the truck was not stolen, but she could not produce the rental contract.

Police arrested Danforth. They also confiscated property found in the truck, including multiple pairs of expensive sunglasses.

Police searched the area for the third suspect, who Danforth said went into Market Basket, but they were unable to find the man.
