Essex DA: Officers in Fatal Shooting Won't Be Named Until Review Complete

Authorities say a comprehensive review of the fatal shooting at a Danvers apartment complex last month is underway and no information will be released until that report is complete.

Neither the names of the officers involved nor any further details have been released yet by authorities a week-and-a-half after a Danvers man was shot and killed at his apartment complex in an armed confrontation with police.

Scott Kehoe, 37, of 5113 Kirkbride Dr., Danvers, was fatally shot by police on Aug. 22 after he ignored repeated orders to drop the knife he was holding and then lunged at an officer with the knife, according to authorities.

Essex County District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett said at the time that a full and impartial review of the incident would be conducted by his office, which is a standard procedure in any instance of fatal force in Essex County.

And once that review is complete, the public and the media would be able to review the findings.

As for when that report might be complete, the DA's office isn't giving an estimate. Spokesperson Carrie Kimball-Monahan told the Salem News the process is comprehensive and she didn't know when the report would be finished or released.

She also indicated that the names of the five Danvers officers and a state trooper who were at the scene would be withheld until the investigation is complete. Until then, they have been placed on administrative leave per departmental policy.

Kimball-Monahan told the paper an initial autopsy on Kehoe's body was completed.
