Griffin Says 'It's My Fault, It's My Car'

Angelique Griffin, 25, of 30 Pleasant St. in Salem, pleaded not guilty to charges of vehicular homicide Monday at Salem District Court.

Dillon Renard, 19-years-old, of Kirkbride Drive in Danvers, was killed instantly, outside Allstar Collision Center on Boston Street in Salem.

Griffin's cash bail was reduced from $50,000 to $10,000, according to the Boston Herald. If Griffin posts bail, she will be required to wear a GPS tracking device, and will be ordered to stay in her residence.

The single mother of toddler twins, who is employed by the Golden Banana in Peabody, according to court records, admitted to first responders at the scene that she had been drinking prior to the accident. 

According to court documents, Griffin stated she did not want to drive, but said the people she was with suggested she get behind the wheel because she consumed less liquor than they had. 

Griffin said she had consumed two beers and two Red Bull vodkas, according to court records. 

Court documents indicated Griffin repeatedly asked if Renard was dead and said to a police officer: "It's my fault, it's my car." 

Griffin told police Renard had been driving her vehicle for part of the ride, and the two had been arguing prior to the accident, court records stated. 

Court documents said a partially empty Budweiser can was found on the vehicle floor behind the passenger seat, and another can was found outside the vehicle in the grass. A drinking glass was also found on the floor of the driver's area. 

On Monday, Renard's family wore shirts with his photograph in the court room, which was reportedly an emotional scene, according to NECN. 

Griffin is due back in court on July 18, according to Boston.com. 

Griffin had no record prior to Saturday's fatal accident, according to court documents.
