High School Remains Closed to Public as Investigation Continues

Police officers are maintaining a security perimeter at the main entrances and exits to the school property.

Danvers High School remains closed to the public Wednesday, following Tuesday night's murder of a female teacher.

All entrances and exits to the school were blocked off Wednesday morning as Danvers police officers stood watch -- all public schools in town were closed for the day as well.

Following a brief press conference in the main lobby of the high school that morning, members of the press were then asked to leave the property. It's unknown at this time when schools might reopen.

Officials say there is no threat posed to public safety, but the investigation is still open. While Colleen Ritzer's body was found in the woods, the high school is still part of the crime scene.

According to scanner reports, it appears the section of the rail trail that runs past the high school is also closed to walkers, cyclists and other members of the public.
