Leaking Fuel Kept Out of Nearby Swamp

A diesel fuel tank on a truck behind an Endicott Street business was ruptured on Thursday afternoon.

Diesel fuel was stopped before it made it way into a swamp next to Endicott Street on Thursday afternoon.

A boxtruck struck some “debris” in the parking lot beyond Bed, Bath and Beyond at 180 Endicott St. before 3 p.m.

One of the saddle tanks on the truck was ruptured and the fuel began to leak into the parking lot, said Ed Colletta, a spokesman for the state Department of Environmental Protection, which was called to oversee the cleanup.

“There was no impact to catch basins or stormdrains,” Colettta said.

A total of 15-20 gallons leaked. The rest of the diesel in the truck’s tanks was pumped out and taken away.

When the leak started, the Danvers Fire Department was called and absorbent material was used to keep it out of the swamp behind the store.

The truck is owned by United Way of Tri-County. The company called Moran Environmental to help clean up the fuel.
