Local Teen Struck By Car Taken to Boston Hospital

The patient was initially transported to Beverly Hospital, but then transferred to Boston Tuesday evening.

A local teenager remained hospitalized in Boston Tuesday night after he was struck by a car on Poplar Street in Danvers late that afternoon.

Police initially said a 15-year-old male pedestrian was struck near the rail trail crossing on Poplar Street, although according to a source and social media updates from friends and family of the victim, the teen was identified as a 13-year-old student in town.

Police Lt. William Carleton had little information to provide Tuesday night in regard to the victim's condition. He said the teen was unconscious and unresponsive when officers arrived at the scene shortly before 5 p.m. and had suffered a head injury.

The teen was initially transported by ambulance to the emergency room at Beverly Hospital and then later taken by MedFlight to a Boston hospital, said Carleton.

A state police accident reconstruction team was on scene Tuesday evening and is assisting Danvers police with the investigation.

Carleton said it will "take a little while" to process the scene and wrap up the investigation before further details are ready to be released on the accident itself.

A stretch of Poplar Street between Locust and Franklin streets was shut down to traffic Tuesday for approximately 2-1/2 hours after the accident.
