A 23-year-old Danvers man was arrested on Wednesday afternoon after reportedly leading Peabody police on a brief chase into Danvers.
Peabody patrolman Robert Gallo finally pulled over the white swimming pool work van driven by Michael J. Ruth, 23, of 8222 Kirkbride Way, Danvers, at 3:10 p.m. by the entrance to the on Endicott Street.
Ruth was subsequently taken into custody and charged with failure to stop for police, a marked lanes violation, possession of a Class C drug and on an outstanding warrant from Lawrence District Court. The warrant charges included unarmed burglary and breaking and entering for a felony.
Salem police initially transferred a phone call to Peabody dispatchers from a person reporting an erratic operator heading toward Gardner Street in Peabody. The caller, who was following the work van, then said the vehicle turned onto Route 128 North, according to police.
Gallo attempted to stop the van and ended up pursuing Ruth into Danvers and off the highway onto Endicott Street. Danvers police were also notified of the incident.
Arrington Towing removed the vehicle from the scene.
The initial police report did not indicate what type of drugs Ruth had in his possession, although Class C in Massachusetts covers prescription tranquilizers and narcotics.
