Police Searching for Suspected Bank Robber

The suspect in a bank robbery and another attempted heist Thursday is believed to be a man who was recently living in a Danvers motel.

A man known to be living recently at a Danvers motel is a suspect in a bank robbery in Woburn as well as an attempted bank heist in Wakefield, both incidents within minutes of each other Thursday afternoon.

Wakefield police said a male suspect around 40 years old and wearing a gray sweatsuit, entered the Santander Bank at 369 Main St. in Wakefield and passed a note demanding money, stating he had a weapon.

The incident occurred shortly before 1 p.m. and the man reportedly didn't show a weapon and fled on foot empty-handed.

According to scanner reports, Danvers police were saying the suspect was believed to be a 40-year-old man known to have lived recently at one of the Route 1 motels.

A bank robbery was then reported around 1 p.m. at a Citizens Bank at 355 Main St. in Woburn. Police said it was the same suspect and this time the man made off with an undetermined amount of cash.

He again reportedly threatened that he had a weapon, but didn't show one. The suspect is believed to be driving a green 2010 Honda CR-V.

Local police and the FBI Bank Robbery Task Force are investigating the incidents.
