Reward Upped to Find Hit-and-Run Driver, Victim Offers First Interview

The family of a Danvers native who was struck and seriously injured outside the South Carolina hospital where she was working in September has upped the reward amount to find the driver of the vehicle that hit her, reports WTOC in South Carolina.

The family of Lindsay Bires, 24, said last week that the reward now stands at $15,000 for information about the person who was driving a vehicle that struck her outside Palmetto Health Richland in Columbia, S.C.

The only information that is available about the car that struck her was that it was small and white and possibly has damage to the front right side. It fled after hitting her and surveillance cameras at the hospital have not provided any further details.

The plea for the public's health has been ongoing since September by both Bires' family and Columbia Police.

“We need the community’s help locating who this person is and who was operating the vehicle,” Columbia Police Chief Randy Scott told the public in a news conference in September.

Bires is a 2006 Danvers High School graduate and her parents still live in Danvers. After initially being treated in South Carolina, she has moved back to a facility in Massachusetts. In November, a large fundraiser was held for her at Danversport Yacht Club.

“She is a great person who did not deserve this,” her sister, Lauren MacKinnon, previously told Danvers Patch.

Bires also offered her first public interview last week. In the one minute and 22 second video posted on the WTOC website, Bires said of the driver that struck her: "I think they suck."

In her interview, she also offered thanks to all the support she has received during the past five months.
