Route 128 Southbound Closed After Rollover Crash

Southbound traffic is being detoured off exit 25B while police investigate the accident. The victim was taken to the hospital by ambulance.

Route 128 southbound in Peabody is closed on Wednesday night while State Police investigate a rollover car crash.

An elderly male was been hospitalized after his vehicle rolled over on Route 128 under the Route 114 overpass. In a media alert issued at 9:15 p.m. State Police called it a "serious motor vehicle crash."

The accident was first called in shortly before 9 p.m. and occurred on the southbound side of the highway near Exit 25A, which leads onto Route 114 eastbound.

The road was closed southbound at exit 25B and traffic was being directed on to Route 114 westbound. Westbound traffic on Route 114 was also being blocked from getting on Route 128 southbound.

As of 9:20 p.m., traffic was moving very slowly and backed up to Endicott Street (exit 24) in Danvers.

The lefthand lane on the northbound side was also closed to traffic, State Police said in its media alert.

According to reports, an 84-year-old man was freed from the vehicle and taken to Lahey Clinic by ambulance.
