Sobriety Checkpoint This Weekend Somewhere in Essex County

State police will set up a sobriety checkpoint for drivers somewhere in Essex County Friday night into Saturday morning.

If you spot state troopers on the side of the road somewhere in Essex County this weekend, they may be doing more than just watching for speedsters.

Massachusetts State Police Superintendent Col. Timothy P. Alben has announced that a sobriety checkpoint will be established on an unspecified public way in Essex County from Friday, Dec. 14, into Saturday, Dec 15.

Alben said in a press release that the purpose of the checkpoint is to further educate motorists and strengthen public awareness about the need for both detecting drivers who are operating under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol and get them off the road.
