Source of Late Night 'Explosion' to Remain a Mystery

A strong late night blast over the weekend in Peabody was felt by some Danvers residents, but it is not known exactly what caused the explosion.

The source of an explosion felt by some Danvers residents at about midnight on Saturday night remains a mystery.

At 11:59 p.m. on Saturday, Peabody police received a report of an explosion in the area of Aborn Street. Police and fire units, as well as a Salem police officer, checked the area and were unable to locate anything. Police said they received more than 45 calls about the explosion in a five-minute period. Several residents along Water Street in Danvers reported to Danvers Patch that they felt the explosion. No calls were logged by Danvers Police. Peabody police later said it might have been a transformer blowing or possibly a vapor explosion.

And again on Sunday, Nov. 11 at 12:18 a.m. Peabody police received a report of a loud bang in the area of Wallis Street. Police said Travel Leather was investigated as a possible source of the bang, but everything checked out at the building and there was nothing unusual.
