Two Charged in Child Abuse Case

A 4-year-old boy was reportedly punished by his mother's boyfriend by putting hot sauce in his mouth and taping it shut.

A Danvers woman was arraigned in Salem District Court on Thursday for “permitting substantial injury to a child and child abandonment.”

Katherine Rodriguez, 20, who lives at the Extended Stay Inn on Route 1, was arrested on Wednesday after her 4-year-old son was discovered with scratches and bruises on his face.

The Boston Globe reported that police responded to the hotel room after a report of the boy being abused.

The child told police his injuries came from his mother’s boyfriend, Christopher Delcid.

The boy told police a scratch on his cheek was because he pulled off duct tape from his mouth. Delcid put hot sauce in the boy’s mouth and duct taped his mouth as punishment, reported 7News.

Delcid also pleaded not guilty to assault and battery on a child causing substantial injury and child abandonment, reported The Boston Globe.

The boy, along with two other children, are now in the custody of the Department of Children and Families.
