What a Good Save, Charlie Brown

An off-duty EMT and call firefighter from Topsfield came to the rescue of a man who collapsed at the Boston North Fitness Center early Tuesday morning.

A 41-year-old man's life was saved early Tuesday morning due to the efforts of an off-duty EMT and call firefighter from Topsfield who happened to be working out at the gym at the same time.

Charles "Charlie" Brown tells the Salem News he was just finishing up his workout at the Boston North Fitness Center on Prince Street in Danvers around 6 a.m. when he heard the sound of someone hitting the ground.

He immediately came to the aid of a man who had collapsed on a treadmill and wasn't breathing. The Salem News reports Brown began administering First Aid before using the gym's portable defibrillator to revive the man.

The Danvers Fire Department quickly responded to the scene and took over from Brown, who was also being assisted by several others at the gym. According to the Salem News, the man was doing well and recovering at Salem Hospital.
