3 Businesses to Face Disciplinary Hearings for Serving Underage Customers

Police say Brutole Restaurant, Merchants Liquor Mart and Hong Kong Cafe were caught up in the latest alcohol compliance check for serving drinks to underage customers.

Three Danvers businesses will face disciplinary action this week when the Board of Selectmen convenes separate public hearings on alleged liquor law violations at each establishment.

The Danvers Police Department and underage operatives conducted a routine random sting or compliance check on all 48 businesses licensed to sell or serve alcohol in town late last month.

Police Chief Neil Ouellette conveyed the results of the sting to selectmen last month and said in three cases, underage operatives were served or sold alcohol.

He said the violations occurred at Brutole Restaurant on Route 1, Merchants Liquor Mart on High Street and Hong Kong Cafe on Maple Street.

Representatives for all three businesses will next be before selectmen Jan. 7 for public hearings, which could result in anything from a warning to full revocation of the licenses.
