Danvers Asking Residents to Limit Automatic Sprinklers

The Town of Danvers is increasing the current water restrictions to level 4, limiting automatic sprinkler usage to two days a week.

The Town of Danvers is asking residents to further curb their water usage due to the low flow of the Ipswich River.

According to the town Public Works Department, the flow of the Ipswich River has dropped significantly enough to trigger a new level of water restriction. The town is now at a level 4 water restriction.

The town is prohibiting any automatic sprinkler or irrigation system usage all days expect Tuesday and Saturday's from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The Ipswich River is tied to the Ipswich River basin, which is a stressed basin that supplies water for many towns in Essex County, including Danvers.

The Department of Environmental Protection has already instituted a mandatory cap on water usage during the summer months due to the already depleted level of the Ipswich River Basin. Towns are required to limit water usage to 3.8 million gallons per day during the months of May 1 to October 1.

"Conserving water now will reduce the need for the Town to implement more stringent restrictions later.  The small changes you make can make a big difference," a press release from the town states.
