DPW Unveiling New Water Treatment Plant on Saturday

The $20.4 million Water Treatment Plant upgrade is complete.  

The project was financed through a loan from the State’s Revolving Fund which, with its 2% interest rate, will save the Town $9 million over the course of the loan. The Treatment Plant upgrades include adding ozone to the water, a completely new disinfection system that will meet the new standards of the Safe Drinking Water Act. All in-plant processes were improved, including mechanical systems, computer operations, emergency power generation, pumping systems, and heating and lighting.

Congratulations to Town Engineer Richard Rodgers, Plant Manager Jason McCarthy, Plant Chemist Matt O’Boyle, and the rest of the staff at the Water Treatment Plant for the success of this vital project. 

The Town will celebrate the completion of the project, and Drinking Water Week, with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and Water Treatment Plant Open House.  The Open House is scheduled for Saturday, May 17 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Vernon C. Russell Water Treatment Plant, 30 Lake St., Middleton, MA. All Danvers and Middleton residents are invited. This will be a great event for adults and children of all ages.

Many activities are planned.  There will be guided tours of the Water Treatment Plant and vehicle and equipment demonstrations by the Danvers Water Division. Mr. & Mrs. Fish, environmental entertainers, will perform during the day. Lunch will be served and some of the Water Division employees will show residents how they tap into a water main. 

The Town will offer a variety of educational information on lawn care, water efficient landscaping and gardening, stormwater, water conservation and more.  The day will end with some raffles.
