Fallen Worker Reported at High School Job Site

Town officials say a construction worker at was injured on the job Friday afternoon. From accident details reported to town officials, the man’s injuries did not appear to be severe.

Public Works Director David Lane said he received a report that one of the steel erection workers fell about 14 feet from a steel beam. The beams are for the new construction in the , which includes the new science wing.

Lane said he understood that the man was able to walk off the site and seek medical attention on his own. He did not indicate how the worker might have fallen.

“OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) investigated the incident on Friday as well as the safety officer from Bacon Construction,” Lane said via e-mail Monday afternoon.

Town Manager Wayne Marquis said he was notified of the accident Friday afternoon and was awaiting a report on the man’s condition — he may have injured his leg or pelvic area — and what exactly transpired on Friday.

Marquis said the man works for Bacon, which is the main contractor for the renovation project.

Once further details are known, town officials can determine if any changes need to be made at the work site, Marquis said.
