Five Articles to Watch For at Town Meeting

Town Meeting starts on Monday.

Town Meeting members will face 40 articles on the Town Meeting warrant.

Many are housekeeping items and will Town Meeting move through with little to no debate, but there are some that may spark discussion. 

Here are a handful of warrant articles that may interest members and residents:

Article 2 – Town budget. The proposed budget is nearly $104 million for the next fiscal year.

Article 10 – Putnamville School. The article would transfer control of the Putnamville School from the School Committee to the Board of Selectmen. If approved, the selectmen would then figure out the historic building’s future.

Article 18 – High school athletic fields. The article is $6.45 million for Danvers High School’s athletic fields, including artificial turf, an oval track and stadium bleachers. The money also includes a concession stand, energy-efficient lights and a scoreboard.

Article 19 – Police station renovations. The article would mean $5.5 million worth of renovations and expansion of the Danvers Police Station that hasn’t seen any significant improvements since it opened in 1977. The work would include a new dispatch center, as well as improvements to the building, including making it ADA-compliant and adding sprinklers. 

Article 21 – HVAC at Peabody Institute Library. The article is $2.1 million for new heating, ventilation and air conditioning at the library, as well as for repainting of the building and changing energy from oil to natural gas.
