Heavy Smoke Due to Generator at BJ's, Not Fire

If you saw that heavy smoke rising up from behind Market Basket Tuesday morning, rest assured, it wasn't a fire.

The Fire Department did receive a lot of calls about it though. Chief Kevin Farrell said the smoke was coming from a generator that was being used to power BJ's.

He said the light department was doing work in the area -- there's a substation right off Endicott Street there -- and had cut power to BJ's.

Danvers Electric workers at the scene confirmed they were performing general maintenance on a transformer and had to run the generator to keep the lights on next door.

They anticipated being at the site until about 4 p.m.
