More than 500 members of The Caring Force – including 50 employees from the are expected to attend a rally at the State House in Boston on Monday, April 2. They will join their colleagues from across the Commonwealth and ask elected officials to fully fund human services and include a salary adjustment for low-paid direct care workers in the FY ’13 state budget.
“This is a major event for the Northeast Arc and The Caring Force, a grassroots advocacy movement dedicated to protecting our vulnerable neighbors and creating a stronger economy with the pay, recognition, and respect our workers deserve,” said Jerry McCarthy, Executive Director, Northeast Arc. “We must let our legislators know how important this funding is to preserving critical services and essential jobs throughout our state.”
Registration for the rally will begin at 10 a.m., with the speaking portion of the event starting at 10:30 a.m. Legislators – including Senate President Therese Murray, will be in attendance to share comments with The Caring Force. Direct care workers, a self-advocate, the sister of a consumer and a business professional who sits on a human services board will also share their stories. The event is expected to conclude at about 11:15 a.m. when attendees will visit their legislator’s offices.
