Road Down to One Lane on Poplar Street Due to Utility Work

At this point, motorists can expect traffic delays on the Poplar stretch of Route 62 until early next week.

The reason for all the backup on the Poplar Street stretch of Route 62 this week is due to utility work.

The Department of Public Works is running a new drain line from the intersection of Trask Way and Central Avenue, up Central Avenue and down Poplar Street to an existing drainage structure, says operations director Bob Lee.

The work is being conducted in the eastbound lane of Poplar, which is why traffic is down to one lane on the westbound side. Two police officers were on traffic detail Thursday morning.

Lee said crews also had to relocate two sewer lines Tuesday and Wednesday nights -- Poplar was closed between Trask and Grove streets for a period -- but that portion of the work is now complete.

Lee expects the overall project to wrap up by early next week. In the meantime, motorists can expect continued traffic delays until then.
