Santa by Sea Leads Bevy of Weekend Events

A look at local weekend events in Danvers and nearby areas of the North Shore.

Santa’s arrival by boat at Pope’s Landing on Saturday is just one of five weekend event – many that will put you in the holiday spirit.

There’s holiday music planned for Saturday evening and a free concert on Sunday afternoon too.

1. 'PRAIRIE LIGHTS'

Where/When: Hogan Regional Center auditorium, Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m., Sunday at 2:30 p.m.

Why Go: North Shore Players put on a production that "evokes the hopefulness of the winter holidays," telling the story of an orphan Jewish brother and sister that arrive in a Nebraska and are adopted by the only Jewish family in the small town. From there, the one of the orphans goes on a quest to reunite the small town.

Pricing: $18 for adults, $15 for students and seniors

2. SANTA BY SEA

Where/When: Pope’s Landing; Saturday 11 a.m.-3 p.m.

Why Go: Santa will be joyfully greeted as he makes his way to Pope's Landing in the Danvers Harbormaster boat on Saturday. The event will also include lots of food from local businesses, a petting zoo, wagon rides and free photos with Santa after he comes ashore.

3. PAWS WITH CLAWS

Where/When: PetsMart; Saturday and Sunday, 11 a.m.-4 p.m.

Why Go: Get a photo of your pet with "Santa Claws" to benefit homeless animals. $ from each photo sale will go toward PAWS in Wakefield.

Pricing: $9.99 for a 4-by-6 inch photo.

4. BACK BAY RINGERS CONCERT: 'LET IT SNOW'

Where/When: Maple Street Congregational Church; Saturday, 7:30 p.m.

Why Go: It is the holiday concert from one of New England's top handbell ensembles that will include performances of “Carol of the Bells” and “O Little Town of Bethlehem."

Pricing: $15 for adults, $10 for students and seniors; under 10 free

5. SOUNDS OF THE HOLIDAY CONCERT

Where/When: St. Richard Church; Sunday 4 p.m.

Why Go: The North Shore Philharmonic is the featured performer at this free Sunday afternoon holiday concert. Back Bay Ringers will also perform as will Jilly Martin of Chelmsford, who is typicall a Country singer who has opened for big names including Randy Travis. The concert will end with a sing-a-long. Non perishable food will be collected at the door for People to People Food Pantry.
