Six Additional Liquor Licenses OK'd for Danvers

Gov. Deval Patrick signed a bill on Thursday that provides six more liquor license for Danvers, reported The Salem News.

Danvers Town Meeting backed the proposal earlier this year after the Board of Selectmen saw more interest from prospective restaurants than liquor licenses.

According to the legislation, the six licenses may not be transferred to another person or organization for three years after the original issuance. 

Danvers Selectman Gardner Trask told the Salem News that he plans to bring up the new licenses at the next selectmen’s meeting on June 17 and discuss how next to proceed.

In addition to Danvers’ additional licenses, Peabody is also looking for 10 additional liquor licenses that the city would use strategically. 

Patrick has suggested the state remove the liquor license cap, which is based on population. The current liquor license regulation penalizes communities like Danvers that are smaller towns that have an active restaurant scene.
