State Certifies New Rates: Danvers Homeowners to See Smaller Tax Hike

Average homeowners in town will see a tax bill increase of $109 in 2014.

Danvers homeowners will actually see a moderately smaller tax hike than proposed last month when selectmen voted on new property tax rates for 2014.

The state Department of Revenue certified town rates last week and approved a tax classification factor that amounts to only a $109 tax increase for average single-family homeowners rather than $130. The average tax bill would consequently become $5,198.

On the commercial side, it equates to a $887 average tax increase for an average bill of $27,170.

The new rates will be $14.85 per thousand of valuation for residential and $20.90 for commercial, industrial and personal property (CIP).

A brief memo from Town Manager Wayne Marquis didn't address the discrepancy between the rates the town submitted and what the state ultimately approved. The proposed rates were $14.91 and $20.99.
