'The Traveling House' is on the Market For $325,000

The house at 3 Charter St. was once dragged through town in winter on four sleds pulled by 30 horses and "six yoke of oxen"!

Each Sunday we feature a property on Danvers Patch. This week we searched for the oldest homes on the market. And boy did we find an interesting one!

We found this colonial, built in 1815 according to Zillow.com but listed as roughly 1893 in historical records. The property at 3 Charter St. is listed at $325,000.

If you're looking at older homes, one great Web resource is the Massachusetts Cultural Resource Information System. The database has an amazing story to tell about this property. It once caused quite a stir in town when the owner, George Bell, had it dragged to its current location during the winter. It took four sleds pulled by 30 horses and "six yoke of oxen"!

I've attached a PDF with the historical details from the database. If you're viewing this on your mobile phone, it might not be available.
