5k Run/Walk in Memory of Ritzer is Planned in Andover

The 5k walk/run is in memory of Colleen Ritzer.

The first Step Up for Colleen is scheduled for 9 a.m. Sunday, May 4 in Andover.

The 5k walk/run is in memory of Colleen Ritzer, the Danvers High School math teacher who was killed last October.

The event, which will benefit the Step Up for Colleen Fund at Essex County Community Foundation, will begin at the corner of Bartlett Street and Chestnut Street in Andover. The course will go through parts of the bird sanctuary at Phillips Academy and will end at the Andover Senior Center on Whittier Court.

The first 2,000 registered walkers/runners will get a T-shirt. Online registration ends on Friday, May 2 at noon.

The entry fee is $25 in advance or $30 on race day. There will be awards for overall winners for male and female. There will be age group categories: under 12, 13-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49 , 50-59, 60-69, 70+.

Packet pick-up will be between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday, May 3 at the Greater Boston Running Company, 45 Main St., Andover. Race packets can also be picked up the morning of the race starting at 7 a.m.
