"Crooked Arrows," the first mainstream lacrosse movie in America, will be filmed at various locations throughout the North Shore, including from August 9 through 13.
At last night's Board of Selectmen meeting, Town Manager Wayne Marquis described the movie as "an underdog sports story celebrating an unlikely Native American lacrosse team."
According to "Crooked Arrow's" website, the film will be in theaters in spring of 2012, during the peak of lacrosse season.
Michael Newhall, chief advancement officer at , said the school was approached because their athletic facilities matched what the film was looking for. He said the scenes filmed at St. John's Prep will depict a state championship type game played in the stadium.
For the last four weeks the school has worked out the logistics with "Crooked Arrows." The Prep has reached out to students, faculty, staff, and alumni for involvement and participation in the event. "We've got about a hundred people with Prep connections so far that have responded," Newhall said.
Brother Ron Santoro, head of the Prep's theater arts, has also communicated with students involved in the department, and "Crooked Arrows" has offered opportunities for them to help out behind the scenes.
"This is pretty exciting for the faculty, staff, ands students and it will lead to creating some good buzz around the campus here, as kids return to school," Newhall said.
Newhall said the movie has been filming in various locations in the North Shore, including the Topsfield Fairgrounds in Topfield and Governor's Academy in Byfield.
Marquis said the film has coordinated with both staff at the Prep as well as the to make sure there are no disturbances while filming.
