Patriots offensive coordinator, alum, Bill O'Brien officially accepted the head football coach position at Penn State on Saturday, Jan. 7, after a week of .

Bill O'Brien told ESPN on Saturday, his welcoming "has been unbelievable. It's been a great experience so far, had a great reception at the women's basketball game [Saturday] and another great one today at the men's game versus Indiana. They've welcomed my family and I with open arms."

The decision, however, has come with some harsh reactions, mainly from Penn State alums, the Boston Globe reported Friday. Most concerns were due of O'Brien's lack of connection to the university, and his inexperience as a head coach.

O'Brien, a Dorchester native, graduated from in 1988, moving on to Brown University. O'Brien had been with the New England Patriots since 2007.
