Bobby Valentine Fired; Do You Agree with the Call?

The Boston Red Sox fired Valentine after an unsuccessful year at Fenway Park.

The Boston Red Sox have fired manager Bobby Valentine after the team experienced the worst season in decades.

In fact, the 69-93 record was the team’s worst since 1965 and the first time the team has finished last in the American League East in more than a decade.

Valentine’s one season at Fenway Park was full of losses and run-ins with players. Valentine, who led the New York Mets to the World Series in 2000, followed Terry Francona, a fan favorite who was dismissed a year ago after taking the team to two World Series titles.

We want to hear from you: Do you agree with the call? Was Valentine to blame for this year's horrible record? Who or what kind of manager would you like to see at Fenway Park?

I agree with the call, and I believe the managing combo of Jason Varitek and Tim Wakefield could get leadership and experience back in the dugout, the bullpen AND translate to success on the field. They should make it happen!

I think when the owners pick your coching staff that a bad sign.I dont think he was given enough support from the players .God forid they should make an effort for the money hey makeGeez!!!!!!!!

Afraid I have to disagree. Varitek was the captain with the big red C on his uniform last year when the beer & chicken follies were going on. He apparently did nothing to rein those boneheads in.

Bobby V certainly did not work here...but we definitely DO NOT need a "best friend player coach" either (we just ran one outta town). Farrell will be a happy medium.

Valentine was a terrible fit for this town and this team-- thank goodness mgmt could see that and end it. Sox need a no-nonsense, not flashy manager (does Belichick have a protege in baseball?). My instinct tells me the successful manager will not be a New Yorker.

I do agree but should not stop with him.

Bobby V was a train wreck from the start and lost the respect of the players early on as his egotistic style rubbed every one the wrong way. However he didn't compile a 5.5 Era as many of his starting pitchers averaged ( thanks Dice k Josh and Cook) and they essentially fielded a triple A team for more than a third of the season. Short on overall talent and with impact players more than 2 years away in the farm system its going to look like the mid 60's for the short term.

The Red Sox should sell to Bob Kraft

Bye Bye Bobby. I agree. I was not much of a fan of his. I just couldn't take him seriously, and I'm sure the players didn't either.

Don't blame Jason. Those guys are adults. The beer and chicken guys, those are the ones to blame, and they are gone.

Gotta agree with Bill....captain should mean something, it shouldn't be just a title. Leadership is expected of captains and, unfortunately, Varitek did not live up to his title.

Valentine does not have people or communication skills. Youk was the wrong person to call out and Valentine's credibility went downhill from there. Also, he was out of the game for 10 years, that is a lifetime in professional sports. Time had passed him by. He was a poor choice by a fractured ownership. Larry Luccino needs to step back.

I love the hot stove league.... Here's some things to think about.... I think that there were too many EGO's trying to run the team. There seems to me there no clear dirction for the team. Robert K. hired someone to run the team -and let him. They should stop trying to hide behind the GM.(Is that why Theo is with the Cubs???) From a team that was given the Championship (on paper) a few years ago to this? What happened?

Forgot to say.... I still love this team.
