Danvers' Dominick Wins Her 1st League XC Title

The Falcons girls' squad sported pink ribbons and pink on their nails in the NEC Championship Saturday and it was Catalina Dominick who ran away with the win.

Danvers’ Catalina Dominick won her first cross country league title Saturday, outpacing the competition at Bradley Palmer State Park in the Northeastern Conference Championships.

Dominick, a junior, completed the 5K course in 18:20, more than 30 seconds ahead of Marblehead’s Janaya Randall and more than a minute-and-a-half faster than she ran last year. This was also her first healthy season running the race.

According to various reports from Saturday, her time was believed to be the fifth fastest time ever on the course.

Dominick has already garnered several medals in track, and perhaps the pink ribbons in her hair and the pink on her nails – in memory of slain math teacher Colleen Ritzer – provided some inspiration for the day.

As a team, the girls finished 4th with 114 points. Peabody, Beverly and Marblehead took the top three spots. The seven Falcons’ runners competing were Dominick, Jessica Driscoll, Alison Barker, Lindsay MacInnis, Payton Johnson, Rachel Vasquez and Ellen Tye.

On the boys’ side, Danvers finished 5th with 153 points. James Bailey had the top finish for the Falcons in 13th (17:14). Bailey was joined by teammates Kevin Hebert, Ryan Heber, Sam Anderson, Jay Calcagno, Michael Neff and Zach Powers.
