SJP Football Star Thomas Sidelined for Season After Knee Injury

Peabody resident and Eagles' senior running back will look forward to rehab following surgery to repair a torn ACL.

According to various news reports, the St. John's Prep Eagles' star running back Johnathan Thomas will have to sit out the rest of this season for knee surgery.

Thomas, a Peabody resident who has verbally committed to play for the University of Maryland next year and is widely considered the best high school football player now in Massachusetts, left the field Saturday during the Prep's game against Everett after suffering a knee injury.

Reports say he is now scheduled to undergo surgery later this week for a torn ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) in his right knee and won't return for the rest of the season. He has a long stretch of rehab to look forward to before next fall arrives.
