US Women’s Hockey Goes for Gold on Thursday

Led by Danvers resident and Captain Meghan Duggan, the women will take on Team Canada for the Gold Medal.

The US Women’s Hockey team crushed Sweden 6-1 on Monday and will now look for revenge against Team Canada on Thursday.

The Gold Medal game will be shown on NBC at noon Thursday. (There will be a re-broadcast at 5 p.m. Thursday.)

The US team beat Sweden 6-1, but it could have been much worse if not for the Sweden’s amazing goalkeeping. The US peppered two Swedish goalies with 70 shots. The US outshot Sweden 70-9.

American goals were scored by North Reading's Alex Carpenter, Kacey Bellamy, Amanda Kessel, Monique Lamoureux, Megan Bozek and Brianna Decker.

The US will take on Canada, which beat Switzerland 3-1 on Monday. The Canadians beat the Americans earlier in the Olympics, 3-2.
