Here Are the Runners Up in Danvers Idol 2013

Ten finalists competed for the title of Danvers Idol on June 28 in the auditorium at Danvers High.

The runners up in this year's Danvers Idol were high school biology teacher Eben Bein of Somerville and Berklee College student and aspiring country artist Brittany Hill of Milford.

Bein took second and Hill third Friday night behind this year's winner, 17-year-old Alexandra Valenti of Manchester-by-the-Sea, in the sixth annual competition held at Danvers High School.

The contest is part of the Danvers Family Festival and the winner (Valenti) gets to perform live in front of a crowd at Plains Park July 3 prior to the festival's annual fireworks show.

Bein says he grew up singing with his family and was part of a band that recently split up. He says he's interested in a lot of different things -- singing and science are just two of them.

Hill is a junior at Berklee and majoring in vocal performance and songwriting. She's sung with the Mass. All-State Choir and hopes to continue her music career down in Nashville after she graduates.

All top three prizes included cash ($500, $150 and $100, respectively) and studio recording time with Kenny Lewis of Mixed Emotions Studio.

The other finalists were: Greg Knight (Dorchester), Isaac Willnow (Hamilton), Jilly Martin (Chelmsford), Katie Donnelly (Beverly), Kerrin Mullen (Merrimac), Olivia Wendel (Lexington) and Philip Pereira (Lynn).

The contest, which is in its sixth year, saw 38 vocalists compete in a preliminary round on June 15 and 10 finalists emerge from that group. The initial round was held at Danvers Community Access Television studios. DCAT also filmed the show June 28 and will be airing it soon and posting it online.

The judges for the preliminary round were Amy Giammarco-Moquin, Stephanie Parsons and Ashley Johnson while the finals judges were Karen Nascembeni, Tom Page, Jacyn Tremblay and Erika Van Pelt.
