Danvers Walkers Honored as Pacesetters for Annual Marathon Walk

Eight Danvers residents were recently honored for their contributions to raising a grand total of $6.5 million for the Boston Marathon's Jimmy Fund Walk last year.

Danvers’ own Katy Carlin, Jude Farinelli, Elaine Hennessy, William McNeill, Louise O’Neill, Jacquelyn Overberg, Irene Speridakos and Michelle Sullivan were recently honored as Pacesetters of the 2010 Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk.

These eight residents each raised at least $1,000, and collectively $17,522, for the annual walk in September to support cancer care and research at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. The walk, sponsored by Hyundai, brought in more than $6.5 million in 2010, bolstered by the efforts of more than 8,500 walkers.

Pacesetters are dedicated walkers who trod the 26.2 miles of the Boston Marathon course having committed to raising certain levels of funds for the cause. In 2011, Pacesetters will be asked to raise at least $1,250 to become a Star Pacesetter, $2,500 for the Two Star level, $5,000 for the Three Star and $10,000 to become a Four Star Pacesetter.

“The commitment of our walkers, especially the more than 1,600 Pacesetters, is essential in the walk’s fundraising efforts,” said Ann Beach, director of the walk, in a press release. “They are our ambassadors and the key ingredient in funding our fight against cancer, having raised $3.9 million for the 2010 Walk.”

Pacesetters, top team captains, sponsors and Walk Heroes were publicly recognized at a recent ceremony at the Boston Marriott Copley Place.
