Eastern Bank’s Heart of Eastern Network Supports Hospice Walk

Like many of her colleagues at Eastern Bank, Maureen Trefry knows all too well the importance of the comfort brought by hospice as people near the end of their life. “There are so many people in the Eastern Bank community who have been affected by sickness, cancer and people passing away,” she says. She’s seen first-hand the peace and beauty brought to such a difficult life stage through Hospice of the North Shore and Greater Boston.

“At Eastern Bank, we are so closely tied to the North Shore. We have had so many people directly involved with Hospice of the North Shore and Greater Boston. We have employees who were cared for there, and some who have spouses, parents or other loved ones who have received their services.” With so many people at Eastern directly impacted by Hospice in some way, it is no surprise that the company chose to be the title sponsor at the Annual Walk for Hospice, slated to take place on Sunday, September 22 at St. John’s Preparatory Academy in Danvers. Through their “Heart of Eastern Network,” Maureen and her co-workers are also planning to participate as a team on the day of the walk.

“We like to entrench ourselves in the communities in which we serve,” Maureen says. “We love to do what we can do to help, as a company, to make our community a better place for people to live.” She says that while Walk day is an opportunity to honor those who are no longer here, it is a happy day filled with comfort, which is exactly how she says Hospice helps the community. “There is so much comfort and peace that Hospice of the North Shore and Greater Boston brings to families, and the Walk is such a great way to show our support for such a wonderful organization.”

The 26th Annual Walk for Hospice of the North Shore & Greater Boston will take place Sunday, September 22 at St. John’s Preparatory Academy at 72 Spring St. in Danvers. Registration begins at 8am at the Ryken Building and the 3-mile walk begins at 9am. Shorter walk routes and tribute laps will also be available. Proceeds from the Walk help fund Hospice services not covered by insurance, including compassionate care for the uninsured and underinsured, grief counseling through the Bertolon Center for Grief and Healing, complementary therapies, volunteer training, palliative care and much more.
