Leaf Pickup, Author Ann Leary and an Ice Cream Fundraiser This Week

Here's what you need to know this week in Danvers.

Today is Monday, Nov. 11. Here's a look at the week ahead in Danvers.

  1. This week is another fall leaf and yard waste collection week. Pickup is usually on your regular trash day, but it's delayed one day this week due to Veterans Day on Monday.
  2. Lung cancer screenings: Lahey Medical Center, Peabody encourages local veterans to come in on Monday for a free low-dose lung cancer screening. There's a questionnaire to complete to determine your eligibility and veterans that meet the criteria can schedule screenings right then. Lahey says many veterans are at a 25-to-50 percent higher risk for lung cancer than civilians because of occupational exposure to carcinogens and a higher prevalence of tobacco use among military personnel.
  3. The St. Mary of the Annunciation School is holding an admissions open house on Tuesday from 9:30-11:30 a.m.
  4. The Peabody Institute Library of Danvers is hosting An Evening with Author Ann Leary Thursday for a reading, book signing and discussion of her latest novel, "The Good House."
  5. This Friday at the North Shore Business Forum, Erin Calvo-Bacci of The Chocolate Truffle in Reading will talk about customer appreciation. The forum meets at 7:30 a.m. over breakfast at the Danversport Yacht Club.
  6. The One Fund Peabody road race is set for Saturday over at Lt. Ross Park in Peabody. There is a 6-mile run and a 3-mile walk. All proceeds benefit the One Fund Boston for victims of the Boston Marathon bombing.
  7. Stop in to Goodies Ice Cream Saturday from noon to 6 p.m. for the Great Oak School's fifth grade fundraiser. The money raised at the event will help pay for students' yearbooks, celebratory parties, t-shirts and the moving on ceremony.
